Welcome to Lokman Dormitory Timeline! This post will provide detailed review of dormitory quality that have been experienced by myself in chronological order. If there is keyword “All in services” in this posts then it means include : Air Conditioner, Bed, Table, Chair, Bathroom, Laundry, and Internet. Ok without any further ado, Let’s get started !
The review will be detailed and will be decided with these factors : Noise – Hygiene – Facilities – Services
#1 : Rawa Belong 38 Kost
On August 2012, i started my university life and This is the first dorm i moved in. this is the feature of this dorm :
Pros :
- Standard Bed
- Fast internet access (2-4MB/s)
- Internal bathroom available
- Free Laundry and Water Drink Services
- Cheap ($140/month)
Cons :
- Noisy Neighbours (Running and talking loudly on corridor)
- Located nearby high traffic road noise
- Dirty environment and rarely cleaned
- Air Pollution due to AC Exhaust Placed in front of room
- No table and chair included
- Tight Curfew where gate locked on 12 AM
- Has 3 months contract for deposit return
- 2019 Update : this dorm is now affiliated to reddoorz and started using prepaid electricity with its meter tool are planted in front of every room, causing beep noise echoing on entire corridor.
Overall Rating : It is noisy, dirty, and has bad services
#2 : Victoria Kost
On Nov 2012, i moved in to this dorm which located just across my previous dorm.
Pros :
- Standard Bed, Table and Chair Included
- Free Laundry
- Water Drink Services
- Electricity Included
- Clean Environment
- Cheap ($140/month)
Cons :
- I moved between room for five times (C14, D06, C05, A06, D12 and D18) and every single of them has at least noisy neighbour.
- Room C05 and A06 are exposed to traffic noise or near outer part of dorm
- No Internal Bathroom
- Slow Internet (Quantum Tera Provider)
- Tight curfew (up to 11PM) and officer will scold you if entering after curfew
- Mobile signal are mostly unreachable on ground floor and it is humid area
- Room D12 is haunted because when I was leaning to chairs, i can feel invisible thing blocking me a moment before i lean to chair.
Overall Rating : It is noisy, dirty, and has bad services
#3 : Inter9 Kost
On July 2015, i moved out to this dorm with similar price $140 / month. the problem is :
- Exposed to high traffic road noise with additional whistle from the traffic officer since it is located on center of intersection.
- Manager decided to place the large fan at the corridor to cool down overheated exhaust system, this large fan has vibration equals to a laundry machine or even worser.
- Environment are dirty and rarely cleaned
- Air Pollution due to AC Exhaust Placed in front of room
- Air conditioner often broken due to poor exhaust system, happens on multiple rooms in the dorm
Noisy environment and Faulty Air conditioner
#4 : Anggrek Cakra 12 Kost
On may 2016, i moved to house dorm with $140, all in services except bathroom and it is small house instead of tall building. here is the reviews :
- Room are located near the stairs and living room so lot of footstep noise when people passing by.
- Every Saturday Morning, Maid will clean every room window from outside and it is very noisy
- The Neighbour which is 214, 203, 206 are talking loudly and my room has 1-meter horizontal small hole connected to room 214, so the noise can pass through without any wall barrier, feels like living two people in one room. Neighbour also love to slam the door.
- Room 106 are exposed to strong water current noise, no cellular signal, and humid area since it located near bathroom and corner of the room.
- Room 205 are exposed to road noise since it located near the road and outer part of a dorm
- Room 302, are exposed to helicopter passing by noise, mosque speakerphone, ondel-ondel, speaker on neighbour house since it located on top floor and outer part of dorm.
- Environment are dirty and rarely cleaned
- Air Pollution due to AC Exhaust Placed in front of room
- 3rd floor public bathroom facilities is bad such as small closet, slow water absorption, broken bailer, big ventilation hole on upper part
- Tight Curfew where gate locked on 12 AM
Other Issues :
- Curfew are unclear, sometimes security guard locked the gate
- Low oxygen on the top floor because it has a low height
- Afro hair Beggar often seen on dorm area will beg you for money
Noisy place and multiple facilities issue
#5 : Jerman Kost
on july 2018, i moved out to employee only dorm near the office.
- It has only 2×1 room only which is very small with no chair and table included, using small dresser and bed
- The alley are closed on night so vehicles cannot enter the alley and you have to walk from main road. this is confirmed when i move in and i have to bring all my stuff by walking, ended up exhausted when arrive to dorm.
- the dorm staff is useless, I move all of my stuff by myself even though he opened the dorm gate for me and The staff didn’t tell about fine policy, so I got fined for one day because I paid the rental fee on 2nd July
- Strong vibration comes from nowhere
- Thin wall, any sound travel easier
- Gate and door key is bad because it can be used backward and become stuck on the keyhole.
- Sudden Blackout more than 10 times/month.
- On 15th day, construction started to expand J Dorm, which is noisy and I also asked construction worker and they say that construction will take 6 months! so i decided to move out and have notified the staff i will move out and staff will notify the owner.
- Then the end of July, the owner are shocked when i was moving out, then when i explain the situation then he claimed that his staff doesn’t informa anything, and my deposit money are being on hold because of it
- Update: Deposit money finally returned on November 2018 after several follow up (which is 4 months after moving out)
Terrible dorm services and facilities
#6 : Dpalm Kost
on august 2018, I moved into Dpalm dorm and my room is e19, it is all in service with no bathroom.A lot of issues happening on this dorm :
- Room e12 and e21 blasting subwoofer or talking loudly till midnight, sometimes room e7 blasting until entire corridor can hear it
- Room located near AC exhaust, often noisy by staggering
- Thin wall between rooms, any sound travel easier
- Traffic noise because located on main road and dorm itself is an open architecture
- Located near the kindergarten area, children playing around in the morning and random subwoofer sometimes in the morning and midnight.
- March 2019 Update: e21 are moving out on March 2019 so the noise source is reduced
- Aug 2019 Update: new neighbor e21 move in and he has a subwoofer and talking loudly until midnight (back to square one…)
- a lot of public bathrooms are out of service and dirty or have a broken shower or toilet.
- Public Water dispenser often cannot be used or running out of the water (Fixed on Oct 2019, the dispenser has been changed to the new one)
- The chair has no back support which is not comfortable
- Room window is too long, cause a lot of light coming in
- When I got into a public bathroom and put my shoes outside than when I am done, my shoes are located 10 meters away from before (most likely thrown)
- One day, one of my shoes get wet for no reason
- Trash plastic and used tissue appeared in front of my room, some are located on my shoes.
The suspect most likely is a new neighbor on room E21 because it happens after he moved in and it happens on Sunday when the dorm resident mostly away so only me and him are available in the same block.
Side Story of Dpalm Dorm :
- In October 2019, I decided to move into Room L14 and unfortunately the AC is not cold enough and since it is located near the mosque so the noise is very loud when it is prayer time.
- On 2nd day in room L14, I decided to move back to my old room E19 because I simply cannot sleep with L14 room condition.
Noisy and uncomfortable place + Unhelpful staff
#7 : Green Kost
on december 2019, I moved into room number 406 with all facilities in including the bathroom, the place is clean and has 24 hour security guard. you will be provided card access, free cleaning service, and free water. several problems are :
- Rats on room rooftop squeaking and stomping the roof and A lot of rats sighted on corridor
- near the mosque and school has bell with Mary Had a Little Lamb Nursery Rhyme every 1-2 hour
- A lot of footsteps cause vibration because of low height room and small room
- the neighbor on block B that connected to my room are sometimes noisy
- the air is humid
- My room Located on 5th floor so climbing stairs will be tiring.
Noisy environment
#8 : Mawar 17 Kost
- Noise and strong vibration heard from mosque speaker and neighbour house subwoofer everyday
- Neighbour room mobile phone vibration can vibrate through my room due to long table sticked to wall
- Sometimes cat meow or dog bark noise on midnight
- Door pin code when pressed beep reverb into entire corridor
- Steep Stair, increase possibility of slipping
- Bathroom facilities are bit rusty and dirty, no water heater included
- Shared Wifi access with no bandwidth management which is slow and unstable
- Often blackout due to electricity issue
- laundry service got additional fee per clothes and more expensive for long clothes
- Table are too long but not wide
- Binded with 3 months contract else deposit are taken
- My Air conditioner are broken only in 2 weeks usage
Terrible dorm services and facilities
#9 : Hollywood Residence
On february 2020, i moved into hollywood residence and This dorm has all in services except electricity, located on small road so less vehicle noise, here is the experience on this dorm :
Noise Issue :
- Open bath tub cause strong vibration on the bathroom wall, possibly water pump issue.
- L10 neighbour behind often snoring at midnight, confirmed that the wall is thin
- Since each electric token placed in front of its room, if neighbour token are in low balance then it will start the buzzer and beeping loudly
- Lot of cats often roaming and fighting in the corridor, cause ruckus and spill out lot of stuff
- Hot water totally relies on solar panel so if there is no sun then there wil be no hot water
Other Issue :
- environment is dirty (corridor, wall, public kitchen, parking, etc), lot of cats too
- no free water or even gallon water available
- hot shower relies on solar panel, so hot shower usually only works a little or not working at all
- Facilities are old which broken easily.
- Update Feb 2020 : My air conditioner is not working with slow responses staff so it took around 4 days to fix it
- Update 12 Mar 2020 : My air conditioner is hot, fixed by refill freon but it become hot again after 2 weeks
- Update 31 Mar 2020 : i ordered external AC service twice to fix the handle on AC exhaust + freon refill with cost sround $65 but in the end the issue still not fixed and they claimed the pipe is broken
- Update Apr 2020 : Owner claimed that old stuff will still working without issue and only trust her own AC service so she won’t help me cover the fees and ask me to move room instead
- I already spill out my kettle twice already and my floor is completely soaked
- Neighbour room L12 AC is not working or even worse than L11 in comparison
- Staree are not responsive, screenshot coming soon
- Surveyed lot of rooms on L11 and G07, all of their AC is broken like my room (staff also confirmed lot of broken AC on 2nd floor)
- near flower market with lot of truck sound and outdoor speaker vibrates into the room
- neighbour L10 snoring and coughing loudly everyday
- L06 token keep beeping for every 2 days
- Update Apr 2020 : move to L13
- Update 18 July 2020 : back to L11
- Update Oct 2020 : back to L13 again
- Update 30 Nov 2020 : back to 202, broken AC immediately after 3 hours living in and actually exposed to two mosque at same time due to higher location and some open window (another failure survey)
Noisy Environment
#10 : Kost Evolette Residence
- Far from mosque and road noise
- Responsive staff
- Fast Laundry
- Good air circulation with High ceiling (3 meter)
- High Security with CCTV
- Strategic location, easy access to food, store, etc.
- Mild vibration all the time
- Slow internet, download < 10mbps and upload < 2mbps
- Sometimes Unstable electricity, cause sudden blackout.
- One of security guard (old one) has childish behaviour.
- Water heater broken for 6 weeks and there is no compensation
- Early checkout policy, before 5th day of the month else deposit will be void.
